Reflecting on Samhain and What is to Come
Well, it's 15 minutes before midnight. It's still Samhain yet, so I want to comment quickly on the events...
Well, Samhain may be over now, but there is always plenty of time to reflect on the holiday as a whole.
This year's Samhain should have been a celebration, at least for me. But considering what has happened in the last 2 months, I am surprised that it turned out somewhat ok. I'm not thrilled with what I actually did this night, but I can't change that now.
What I would've done was have a ritual to enjoy the occasion. Instead, I made the decision to give candy out to trick-or-treaters. I don't think they truly know how far we as a people have come. Our beginnings with this holiday that is celebrated today started out with our fore-mothers and fore-fathers honoring their ancestors. What is known now as is a commercialized enterprise. Giving candy out is ok, but that's not what matters. It sucks how things have turned into caring about the all mighty dollar, and even that is not worth the paper it's printed on. The next holiday is no better. And no, I'm not talking about Thanksgiving...oh wait. Yes, I am. That holiday USED to be about spending time with family and eating stuffing and just being grateful for everything you have been given. Now, it's about getting to the stores that have sales to help you save more of the all mighty dollar. It's disgusting. It truly is.
I don't know. Maybe I'm getting cynical at 31 years young. But you would too if all you see is the society going to the underworld in a f***in handbasket. Laters y'all.
